USA RUGBY LAUNCHES ADDITIONAL ONLINE EDUCATION COURSES; L300 COACH AND L1 STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

In November, USA Rugby launched new Introduction to Coaching and Refereeing courses in an all-online format. With the approval of World Rugby, USA Rugby is now rolling out additional courses via online Zoom sessions. Beginning in January, USA Rugby will offer the L300 Coaching Course (World Rugby L2 Coach) and the Level 1 Strength & Conditioning courses in an online format.

LEVEL 300 COACHING

Traditionally, the Level 300 Coaching course consists of a two-day in-person certification clinic. This is now delivered via four 90-minute virtual sessions. All the same content is covered, and participants are expected to complete the same coursework while attending all four sessions. The Level 300 Coaching certification progresses towards advanced coaching skills used in athlete development and program building. This course is much more involved than the Level 200 with respect to coursework and post-coursework.

The objective of the certification is for coaches to increase their ability to coach technical skills while achieving strategic and tactical outcomes. Coaches will be able to use the coaching process, key factor analysis, and functional role analysis to achieve specific short and medium term goals for their teams.

Initially, there will be four course opportunities comprised of four sessions each;

  • Weekend ET Courses – all at 7:30pm ET

    • Sun, Jan 17

The course cost remains the same at $350 for all four courses.

L1 STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Similar to L300 Coaching, the Level 1 S&C Course traditionally consists of a full-day in-person certification clinic. This is now delivered via two 120-mintue sessions. All the same content is covered, and participants are expected to complete the same coursework while attending both sessions.

The World Rugby Level 1 Strength & Conditioning course is designed to provide basic knowledge and understanding of strength and conditioning and a foundation of practical skills. The course covers long term player development pathway, functional screening, anatomical adaptation, demands of the game, principles of training, speed and intermittent sprint endurance, periodization and recovery.

It is intended for all coaches, referees, players, administrators, parents, and others who are involved with rugby. Participants do not need to have previous experience in Strength & Conditioning as this course primarily centers around preparing athletes to perform and recover.

Initially, there will be two course opportunities comprised of two sessions each;

  • Saturday Courses – all at 12pm ET

    • Sat, Jan 23

    • Sat, Jan 30

  • Sunday Courses – all at 12pm ET

    • Sun, Jan 3

    • Sun, Feb 7

The course cost remains the same at $100 for both sessions.

COURSE REQUESTS

After this initial roll-out of courses, USA Rugby will continue to offer them on a periodic basis allowing registration from anywhere across the country. However, we will also be opening L300 Coaching and L1 S&C for Unions and other organizations to request a course be held specifically for your region, club, or organization.

The L200 Coaching Course and the L1 Refereeing courses are both currently available to be held in-person, pending COVID-19 restrictions of your local area, see reference. Unfortunately, due to the practical the nature of these two courses, they are not suitable for translation into online environments.
